I love where I live, I really do. But it's a small area with a small library and bookstore offering. It's great for someone who reads a book or two a year. But I read over a hundred books a year, and it's part of keeping up in my profession as well, so...yeah.
But we're on vacation in a town with a huge chain store downtown as well as a huge indie store. Every year when we come, I have to go back to that indie. Because that's where I bought my first Harry Potter book, and because when I come back next year, I want it to still be there. And we all have to do our part, right? :) I am sure our relatives think I'm a bit crazy--my SIL is a librarian and has brought over a stack of ARCs, I went to the bookstore, and I also went to the library already. But I feel like I've been STARVING for books. Like I could lie down in the aisle of the bookstore and just sort of pull the bookshelves over me like blankets. All those stories, whispering to me. It was like...I can't even describe it. I wandered through shelves of books I'm not even interested in, just to be there. I felt this way when we came back to the States and suddenly there were all these books I could easily read without always remembering I was reading, without it being work. It's like when you realize that the reason you're always feeling so tired is because you have a massive anemia problem, and so you start taking iron supplements, and your feel ten thousand percent better.
Yeah. Books are like that.
