Son 1 is supposed to go camping this weekend. The teenagers who are 14 and over have Youth Conference, and to keep the 12 and 13YOs from feeling left out (Youth Conference I believe includes a dance at night, so for general interest it's 14+), they're doing a campout, instead. Which trust me, my kid would MUCH rather do! They were going to go up to these nearby lava caves. But they've had to change plans: there's still FOUR FEET OF SNOW in the camping place. Um.

So, why don't they do the whole build-your-own-snow-cave in June??

Swimming lessons were good today. I can see the kids making some progress, which is always nice. Other than that, I spent the morning at the eye doctor with the girls. The younger one had some weird fuzzy sparklies in her peripheral vision one day, but her eyes checked out today, and we think maybe it was a migraine aura (please NO! but it looks like it). The other one needs updated glasses. Which should have been fine, except that the supplementary glasses insurance we signed on in September has, unbeknownst to us (as we've been paying the same premiums), expired. We were supposed to renew in October. What?? We never got anything notifying us of that. Good thing our regular insurance covers eye exams. In the meantime, forget buying glasses locally. The only places are expensive optometrist offices who depend on people with insurance to buy the glasses. They're a little high for out of pocket, and we don't have a Walmart with any amenities. So it looks like another trip to the Big City. Sigh.

I also spent way more time deleting spam registrations on a forum I moderate. The normal spam-checker site is down, and we're getting slammed with significantly more spam than normal. (Usual is 10 or less a day. We've been getting more like a hundred every day.) Spammers, go away!!

Finally, happy Flag Day. I have no idea what Flag Day is for, but the big fundraiser for scouts around here is selling flag service. On select (non-frozen) days, they put up flags in everyone's yards and then take them down at the end of the day. You pay for this service, of course. So we do, as it's the fundraiser. But I confess that while I love my country, I've spent too long in Germany, and I don't understand how it helps your nation to stick flags on everything. But I guess it looks nice.

Small child is attacking table. Off to eat!
