1. Favorite fruit of the day: mango. I think it must be mango season or something--all the ones I've bought this week have been so, so sweet and soft. I didn't like mangos as a kid, but something switched, and now I just can't get enough of them. My kids love them, too. Where can I move so we can have a mango tree? Because we're buying enough to support half the industry, I think.

2. Tonight was the district-wide meeting for parents of GT kids. I didn't have a very special sixth grade year. (Um...actually I was in a "school district of concern" for the state of Texas, in a town with a lot of prejudice. Which I'm sure contributed--not to mention it was SIXTH GRADE.) Anyway. THIS is the kind of sixth grade I would have loved! They are doing very cool things this year--everything from robotics (lego mindstorms) to forensics to independent projects to calligraphy field trips to well, a whole lot of other things I can't remember. Do you think they'd notice me if I snuck in from time to time? I'm the same height as a sixth-grader. I also got to see my son's best friend and his mom. Sadly, they are zoned to a different middle school. :( I know my son misses his friend. The have the same name and were so happy to find each other last year, to find a friend who was "just as smart as me, Mom!" (Doncha love 11-year-old boy confidence?)

3. This revision thing is scary stuff. I'm letting the reader in on a whole lot of things I had saved for later, and I'm not entirely convinced yet, but I'm committed to at least trying it. I'm just afraid of it being boring, afraid of telling the reader too much, hitting them over the head with stuff they already know, and most afraid of diluting the main crux of the story, which I just feel really strongly that I have to keep. I'm also a little afraid of the fact that my word count is growing. I hope that by the time I get to the end, those things I moved up allow me to shorten later stuff, and I can come out more or less the length I started with (a healthy 82K, which is quite skinny for me). I've gotta find a time to work on this, though. My kids are finally all in bed, and I'm writing here as I rest because after today I'm totally exhausted. I'm not used to getting up at six every day!
