possible power outage, and ALA
Jan. 26th, 2009 10:00 amThis is just to say that the weather forecast is for basically a 100% chance of an ice storm between noon today and 6 am Wednesday, with a "guaranteed power outage" for NW Arkansas. I'm not so worried about food (if the fridge doesn't work, toss the stuff in the back yard and it will freeze, right?), but I'm a little worried about having no heat. I think I need to do laundry so at least we have warm clothes to wear. We have a wood stove and a couple of pieces of wood outside, but we've never had the flue cleaned, and I've had neighbors who have managed to burn their houses down by using uncleaned flues with a wood stove, so I'm a bit hesitant to try this right now. (Not that I have the first idea how to use a wood stove.)
Also--the ALA page is not loading, so I am unable to see all the awards that were given out this morning. I did hear that Ingrid Law's book Savvy won a Newberg Honor (yay! It was a great book with a story that was actually entertaining to read, and wasn't about the wasteland of human misery, which is always nice) and Neil Gaiman won the Newbery? And Elizabeth Bunce won the William Morris award (new author YA award). Go, Elizabeth!!!!
