Ack! Where is all my time going??
May. 20th, 2008 08:10 pmI'm leaving for Salzburg in the morning, aka the setting for The Sound of Music. (A film no one in the German-speaking lands really knows, incidentally.) It sounds really exotic. The pictures of it are very beautiful, that's for sure. But really, it's just like living in Ohio and deciding to take a few days and visit Tennessee. I mean, it borders the state I live in. Still. I'm excited. Alps, here I come (finally)!!!
When we get back, school will be starting up again for the last time until summer break. And I'll have only 9 weeks until my due date. (Although if the kid follows his next older sister, it will be more like 6 weeks. I've never made it to a due date yet.) In that time we've got to really throw ourselves into moving, and I've got to finish this revision. I've been working on it, but these two weeks of Pfingsten vacation and the accompanying travel have really eaten into my time. I'm roughly at 55K (of a book that was originally 100K), so you could say I'm halfway there. I love jettisoning scenes. Unfortunately, moving things around and changing the focus of certain scenes to make them more cause-effecty and all sometimes means writing new transitions. Then when the big structure is all down, I need to go back again and tweak the emotions some more. It's just hard to do everything at once, even though I know the two things are connected. And speaking of clean plot lines and great emotional reactions and emotional subplots, I just critted a ms for a friend (![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
edawn) that did this perfectly. Yay! I can have things explained to me a million times over, but it's so much more helpful to read a good example of it.
Okay, I should like, haul up my laundry from the basement pit and hope something dries before we take off tomorrow. Have a nice rest of the week, everyone!
