stem cell update
Apr. 22nd, 2008 09:08 amI ran into the mom of my daughter's friend with the Fancomi anemia this morning, the one they did all the DNA testing for who finally found a match--in America. Good news! After some false starts, in the last few days, the new stem cells have finally taken over! It depends on how fast they multiply, but she could conceivably come home in the next few weeks. She's still have to go to the hospital every day, but she could sleep in her own bed. I'm trying to imagine entertaining my six-year-old for weeks on end in the hospital and even the thought gives me hives, so I really hope those little cells multiply fast, and that the girl can come home soon!
Also, I had a routine blood test done a few weeks ago and like in every other office in town, the poster was up about getting tested for the kids. The woman drawing the blood had gone with her whole family to the typing event as well, and her sister had just gotten a call that she was a match for someone else. So I hope that many, many happy endings come from this!
