It's hard to go from this:

spring

to this:

spring?

In one day. Just saying. The fact that my son broke his foot the other day has nothing to do with the cancellation of any hiking plans we may have had. My sister is in town and with all the nice weather (see Figure 1 above), we were looking forward to some outdoor exploration. Alas. We tried to go up to the Johnny Sack cabin in Island Park, but there was actually slush on the main road halfway through Island Park. The road to Big Springs was plowed--until it wasn't. We ended up in parking lot where, if we'd had a snowmobile (that's a snow machine if you live in Idaho), we could have taken off and explored, but we didn't. We tried Harriman State Park nearby--no dice. Without snow shoes (not to mention the crutches), we couldn't navigate the deep snow. So...we came home. Well, it was a scenic drive, anyway.

At Mack's Inn (midway through the 20 mile stretch that is Island Park):

Tetons from Ashton, which is the first town when you pop out of the mountains and down into the Snake River Valley:

It's supposed to hit 60 on Sunday, and near 70 on Monday. Hopefully that means it starts melting in the mountains soon. I want to go hiking--no more snow!!

Wow! It's a different world. We haven't had any snow in NYC this year. Snow is beautiful, but I'd just as soon see it in pictures.
Happy Easter.

We've had very little snow this year, too, which is why we didn't really take the forecast seriously. I mean, a few flurries, okay--but not covering everything! I don't know how the people in Island Park can live there year round. It's gorgeous in the summer--but summer is way too short!!

Happy Easter!

Beautiful pix, but I can see why the return of winter is frustrating...we're definitely sitting on spring weather, but we so desperately need the moisture...funny how it all works out.

Well, most of the snow down here is gone--it's just challenging finding somewhere interesting to go to in nature that doesn't involve the snow (the pretty parts are all in the mountains where there is still AMPLE snow!)
