We've only been to one other one, and I should have remembered. But the city did one right next door to us, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to walk on over. Yeah. Firstly the kids were divided by age, so I had to send my 9 YO and 6 YO off to different sections of the field on their own. Secondly, even though we were there when the horn went off, we were at the back. I understand separating the kids so the big ones don't grab all the eggs before the little ones have a chance. But seriously? The parents are the worst of all. My 2YO found zero, but the people just ahead of us had like, ten. If you're going to be in charge of one of these things, you need to put the little kids in a penned-off area and keep the adults outside. That, or tell everyone that when they've found four or five eggs, they're done.

So then we had to find the 6YO, and luckily she'd found one. But the 9YO wasn't in the meeting spot. So we went around the corner to her field and found her standing there, the last kid, crying and talking to a police officer. Yep, she'd come up with all of zero as well. I'm glad someone found one that we could split among the kids, but I'm thinking that this is the last egg hunt we're ever going to!

They have one here at the park by our house -- but they have so many eggs (like thousands, I bet) that each kid gets over twenty (at least)...which is good, but it's also hard because the kids get so greedy. *shrugs* We didn't go this year.

I'm thinking either you need a zillion eggs like that, or you need a limit to really make it work on such a large scale. You're probably better off staying home and doing your own eggs, though!

We used to hide them around the house for Jack. I'd hardboil them, Jack and I would decorate them with magic markers, then Bob and I would hide them. I remember one extra pretty one Bob hid on the top of a door we never closed. A few days later I cracked it to eat and it was raw! Apparently I hadn't hardboiled that one! I never understood the big outdoors hunts. A few years ago Little Jack and his friend and I made jeweled plastic Easter eggs by gluing sequins and beads to them.

Eek, I bet finding that raw one was a surprise! My dad used to hide them for us sometimes. We had a hen who laid pale blue eggs, and those were always fun to find. I think we'll have to stick to home egg hunts from now on.

oh, that's bad. Ours is organized by age and the kids stand in a circle then when the horn goes off they step forward and grab some eggs. There's supposed to be a limit of 6 eggs per kid though some parents don't enforce it.

Yeah--the limit is important. Parents can be surprisingly greedy/competitive when it comes to these things...

We went to one in Provo years ago with Ichiro (firstborn), then one in Lehi with Jiro (secondborn), but it wasn't really a hunt; all the eggs were in cordoned off areas, and it was mass chaos and, I totally agree, evil. We do one every year in our yard. You're welcome to come if you want to drive here and back (you can start driving now [evil laugh]), and we do it indoors if it rains, which isn't as much fun (it's been rainy all week). We got invited to one at my Okinawan's friend's house this year. She's a grandma, so all her quarter-(or half, maybe)-Japanese grandkids were there. They looked more Japanese than our kids...I wish we could have your kids here for a hunt! Happy Easter Rose!

I hope you guys have a nice Easter, too. I haven't even gotten to the egg dyeing stuff yet--between the 13YO campout and the egg hunt and the graveside service in Shelley for one of Jonathan's relatives and the trip to the river--yeah. I'm only now making dinner. (But it's still light outside!)
