Brrrrr!!

Okay, it's 19 degrees. This is the sunny South, people!! That's -7 Celcius. Tonight it's supposed to get down to 10F/-12C. Little Sweetie has finally agreed that it is cold enough to wear a coat. Son 1 is still leaving his in the car when we drop him off. He claims that he has no room in his locker for his coat, and that he doesn't go outside anyhow, so why drag it around? See, this is the reason why Americans don't wear six layers of clothes, something which HORRIFIES Germans. It is a) too cold to play outside at -12C, and b) all you're doing is running from your heated car to a hot building, and where are you going to stash all those extra clothes, hm? Yes, you are outside longer in Germany, but the coldest I ever remember it down where we lived was -6C. It was freezing, and nobody went outside any more than they had to.

Up to do today: make a sheep costume (Little Sweetie is in the nativity play. All of them minus PMB are, but apart from ropes to tie it all together and a cloth for Mary's head, I think I've got that covered. Thank goodness for thrift store sheets and tablecloths is all I can say.) If I get a chance I need to run through the interlude I'm supposed to be inventing for this music I'm accompanying this weekend. And I should brave the boys' room to find yet another lost library book. Scary.

At the moment, though, I've got to go replace a thingamajig on in the inside of the front doorknob because it's sticking or broken or something, and the last thing I want to do is get shut out of my own house at this temperature. I haz mad skillz, see. But--brrr. That means opening the door. If you see my hands frozen to the door jamb a la the kid stuck to the flagpole in A Christmas Story, thaw me out, okay?

ETA: The mad skillz have to do with handling the help, not the hardware.

skillz

That's about the temp we're at here today. Although with how strong that wind sounds outside, I'm sure it feels much colder. I keep thinking I should be nice and shovel the end of the driveway for my husband, but then I hear an extra strong gust of wind and think, never mind.

Well, at the very least, I don't have a strong wind. Brr! Stay warm!

We went out to dinner last night with some of DH's Öko friends, and when we got to the restaurant, one of the men took off his coat and was wearing a short sleeved shirt. Everybody freaked out. They said," I hope you are at least wearing something under that." He wasn't, and they kept going on about it. Nevermind that we were sitting in a well heated place, surrounded by hot foods. So, I know what you are saying about the layers one is required to wear in Germany. It doesn't end when you get older.

Haha! I can just hear those protests.

It's pretty cold here, though. We may need to break out some of Little Sweetie's old Strumpfhose for PMB.

Alas, I got the whole thing pulled out and the new part I bought was too long and the prongs of the doorknob wouldn't go through it.

If I get stuck, though, I'm totally callin' you, neighbor!

LOL! Let's just hope if it does come to this I don't get sidetracked taking pictures or something on the way there.

It's felt super temperate in Germany, warmer than I thought it would be.
Iceland--high humidity, cold and windy and Finland--kids play outside unless colder than neg 17 C and salt water freezes 3 meters thick. I expected colder winters here.
good luck

You're in the area that's known for its good weather, too. I know you're up north compared to me, but Germany really doesn't have the continental cold that parts of the US does.

Temperatures wise that is.
It looks like the Pacific NW: rainy, gray.

We're freezing here too. When I was driving around today it said 6 degrees in my car. Last night when I went to bed our outdoor thermometer said 9 degrees but the news said -6 with wind chill, brrr. Hope you get your door fixed and stay cozy warm. And good luck to your little sheep. :)

Brr!

The sheep is done. Whew! Now I have a couple of sashes to hold robes on to put together, and I think I'm done.
