Welcome to my castle!

Bamberg is a beautiful city. I've been there twice this week, for completely unrelated events, but I enjoyed both visits. Yesterday we took a visiting friend there. We'd visited the cathedral on the hill before (where Emperor Heinrich and Empress Kunigunda are buried, in case you're into visiting burial sites of medieval nobility), but never the castle above the city. It was farther and steeper than we'd estimated, but it was nice at the top.
I like doorways, and the view beyond. I find myself taking a lot of pictures like this.
Completely unrelated, but after yesterday's hike, the kids begged to stay home and do nothing while husband took friend to see more sights. While they were sacked out, I write nearly 1000 words. Yay! Lately I haven't had time for more than a couple hundred a day, and at that rate, I'll be finishing the book about the time I move into a nursing home (ooh, can it be the one in my photostream? I think I could write very well there!). So anyhow, I have 6000 words total now, and I wanted to go to that Zokutou word counter Karen told me about, just to feel good about my progress. And it says the account is suspended! Not that I can't do simple math, but yanno, I hate when my time-wasting activities are taken away.

Date: 2007-02-18 08:10 am (UTC)In Ireland, there was a castle in the middle of the town (it was the castle used in the filming of Braveheart!). The kids and I would walk up there and hang out on the grounds. I miss that . . .
There are some wonderful castles in the Netherlands, too. None that I can walk to, though. And without a car, well, we won't be seeing any for awhile, I guess.

Date: 2007-02-18 04:02 pm (UTC)I'm sorry you don't have any castles close by! The town we live in is old, but was destroyed enough times that the modern buildings are rather...modern and functional (read: boring). We have to hop a train to see anything interesting. Luckily, we do have a number of interesting towns in our area. (And the place we live IS very nice to live in--very family-friendly--so I'm not complaining too much.)

Date: 2007-02-18 07:17 pm (UTC)I just had a toddler attached to my breast the entire plane ride to the states and back to Dublin . . . argh.
At least none of the other passengers complained -- I think they were a bit relieved, really, since they saw a 2-year-old and a 6-year-old and an overnight flight.
