Hot house

After a few days' rest, it's back to over 90. It's cloudy like it's going to storm, only it hasn't quite managed it. I wish it would break and get it over with. I just can't handle high humidity with high heat--I get headaches and all my cells feel miserable. I guess it's er...good? that we spent most of the day going from store to store. We left our living room furniture behind in Idaho, so we needed something to sit on. One thing we never did find in Idaho was matching furniture where all of us could sit down. So even though it's sort of ugly, we're glad we found a couch/loveseat combo in good shape for a good price. The only problem is figuring out how to fit it in our living room, which right now is set up more like a computer lab than anything else. (If you know my family, you know what I mean...) Everything we do either blocks a heating vent or doesn't have enough outlets. For right now, we're just leaving it where it is, but I really need a computer game that lets me move furniture around on screen before trying it in real life. It's going to take some creativity. (I still think we should have gotten several copies of the bunk bed over/couch under piece--since we keep sleeping downstairs anyway.)

We also got some wood repair putty to try to put the bathroom door together. The wood is rotting away around the doorknob and won't hold it in tightly, so we're trying to restore that. And hang a shelf so we can put clothes somewhere when we're showering. I think I'll let the rental agency fix the garage, though. There's a board dangling over the side door with nails sticking out of it--it could really hurt someone--only the board it's supposed to be nailed to is rotten, so we can't just go up there and fix it ourselves.

Overall the house is smelling better (the dehumidifier downstairs really helps, plus large doses of Kids N Pets upstairs), but we just can't feel at home here. Not when all the window frames are rotten and the floor is unstable and there simply isn't enough room for seven human beings to live in. Also when we're dealing with heat exhaustion on a regular basis. What this house really needs is to be condemned to be completely gutted so the disintegrating wood can be replaced and the floors can be leveled and the windows and porch can be replaced and the broken pipes under the foundation can be fixed. And maybe an additional bathroom could be added... It's a nice town and the people are nice, but I can't help hoping that I'll wake up and find that this is all a dream, and that I'm really safe at home. Instead, we get to live in Sirius Black's mum's old house (but without the old silverware and the house elves).

I guess the positive thing is that we haven't seen any bugs and that this house doesn't sit over a garter snake nesting ground?? Because that would send me to an asylum.
