Wintry music
Oct. 22nd, 2012 09:06 pmBrr, winter is here. After a very hot summer and a nearly nonexistent fall, it's now cold and rainy and that rain will probably turn to snow soon. Like maybe tonight. I ended up driving in the rain today to a) get a coat for one of my kids in Idaho Falls (because apparently our local Walmart doesn't stock coats very well--go figure) and b) try to get something at the Harriman State Park office, only it turns out it's closed on Mondays. Usually I only go to Island Park in nice weather. Um. The sky was BLACK. It's got to be really, really, really gloomy to live up there in winter! And I'm revising my sense of when winter starts up there to a lot earlier. (Especially since I have a character in one of my WIPs who is from there.) So I saw most of eastern Idaho today.
After that I had to bring the cello to the middle school. My daughter's cello string has been wonky for quite a while (ever since we've had it), and today we took it in and got it replaced. Also, the teacher tuned it. AMAZING, the difference that makes! We felt like, I dunno, who's a famous cello player? Steven Sharp Nelson? playing on an instrument where all four strings actually work. My daughter played for a long time, then I played for a long time. Right now, my oldest son is playing the piano (er, that would be a Jon Schmidt collection--yes, we are Piano Guys fans). He taught himself to play the piano, and can now play things I can't. There is a lot of music in our house every day. The nice thing about music is that you get instant satisfaction from it. It's not like writing, which for some reason begs an audience (at least for me). And sitting inside a warm house full of music while winter rages outside is rather nice. :)
What about you? Has winter started yet, or are you still enjoying fall?
