Is it really only Wednesday?
Mar. 21st, 2012 11:44 amThis week is crazy busy, and I'm afraid I'm going to forget some place I have to be. In a couple hours I have to go to art with my first grader. Which is fine, as I'm not in charge of the art lesson this time around. But afterwards, we have to stay and mat a bunch of pictures for the school's upcoming art show. They "sell" a picture from each kid to raise money for art supplies, and then we display the rest of their work throughout the school. I'm a little nervous about doing this while three of my kids are waiting on me, though. Last year my youngest screamed the entire time--and the classes all up and down the hall were taking tests.
Two kids have separate and overlapping scout events tonight, and I have a local writers' group. (also overlapping) Last night my son had a concert, and tomorrow my husband is doing a teacher training meeting. (For which I'm bringing some kind of refreshments?)
I'm looking forward to the writing group, though, as it's still a novelty to me to meet writers in person. I think it's a useful support system, although you can only really target small things in that kind of setting. We can discuss quite a bit more text in my online crit group, and get a lot done without having to stay up late or deal with schedules and meeting places. So--I like them for different reasons.
Also, I signed up with a food co-op (Bountiful Baskets--it's in a lot of states) and can't believe how much stuff you get for so little money. $16.50 for a laundry basket's worth of produce. Of course, you don't know in advance what you're getting, and some of the vegetables can be ones you don't normally cook with--like kale. I like a little chaos in my life, though, so it's perfect. I always see these people who plan out a whole month's worth of menus, which sounds like it would be easy and maybe even cheaper, but that whole idea just makes me feel like I'm in a straightjacket. This way, when I get something like kale or cabbage, that I don't cook with often, I can come up with recipes for the week that deal with the surprise ingredients. I know what to make that week, but I don't feel trapped. Also, basing your menu around a vegetable is probably a healthy way to plan dinners.
I hope that spring is being nice to everybody (it's supposed to break 60 by the end of the week!!! So maybe that snow we got Monday will melt...).
