Dec. 11th, 2011 03:50 pmExcept for a little snow earlier that melted, we have no snow. Is that strange, or what? We took advantage of it, though, to go visit the great-grandparents up in the mountains. We took the scenic route through Swann Valley, and it turned out there was indeed snow in patches on the road up on Pine Creek Pass. But mostly the snow was to the sides, and the roads were clear. We went home the normal way. But in case you're wondering, yes indeed, we do in fact go over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's (and/or Grandfather's) house. The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh through the white and drifted snow.

The sleigh was pulling one of those massive sleds that looks like a truck bed or something--you may not have seen these things if you haven't been in Idaho, but trust me, they are HUGE. This was also about the spot in the road where someone hit a skunk, and it was frozen to the middle of the road. I'm thinking it's sorta like those air fresheners that last a long, long, long time...
I'm glad we got to go, as both of our children's great-grandparents are 95, and my husband's grandfather in particular is not in very good health. He's the one who is the published author, and it's fun to read about what it was like in the olden days. (As opposed to the modern days, when sleighs are obviously still in use.)
Going home was scenic, as the sun was setting over the snow and reflecting off the Tetons.

I hope your December evening is peaceful and warm!
