You can see it creeping up the mountains from Utah on the radar. You can see it in the clouds so gray and heavy, the snow inside just waiting for the cloud fabric to rip and spill out. The wind is the kind that gusts your breath away so that you gasp and find nothing in your lungs when you get out of the car to go into the library. The leaves are doing one last frenzied dance before they are covered forever.

It's snowing in part of my town, but not in another. Crossing the street that divides the park from the houses opposite, there's a demarcation zone.

My kids were sad to wake up and find the roads clear. But it's coming.

Last night we watched Deathly Hallows part 2, as we did not take most of our kids to the theater to watch it. My 9YO said she was glad we didn't take her to the theater. She realized some of it was a bit too intense for that kind of environment. (Voldemort's soul--ick.) At the same time, they all loved it. (Well, maybe not PMB, who fell asleep. It wasn't really the film for him.) They sobbed through the Pensieve scene and also the resurrection stone scene. They cheered for Neville! Also Mrs. Weasley. And when the bad guys get a surprise after Neville's speech in the courtyard, they were thrilled. The day we finished reading Deathly Hallows aloud still topped it, but for a film, it was a complete success as far as they were concerned. No matter what else you want to say in a book or movie, if you can't make your reader/audience feel, you have failed. And this was one case where it succeeded very, very well.

Well. The errands are run, and the snow can come. I've got Christmas music to learn on the piano, for once the kids don't have homework (but they do have housework--more than one bedroom looks like the Room of Requirement, and we all know what kind of a fire hazard that was!). I have Anne Ursu's BREADCRUMBS next to me, waiting to be read.

Let is snow.
