I know some of you don't want to hear this, but we just came back from watching fireworks in the park, and those of us who didn't bring sweaters were freezing. Some of us (me) remembered how cold it was up at scout camp last night, when we went to have dinner with our 13YO on his last night up there. Some of us didn't. Ah, well. Now they know, right?

Anyway, it was fun. I know we have a lot of kids in our neighborhood, but seeing them en masse, running around the park really puts it into perspective! A hundred kids? One of our neighbors owns a fireworks business, so we had a nice show. The only difficulty was convincing our 3YO not to take off on his bike in the dark.

*Pioneer Day is a state holiday in Utah, celebrating the day Brigham Young arrived in the Salt Lake valley and said, "This is the place!" Once Salt Lake was more or less established, he sent out colonies to a number of states, which is how the current permanent European settlements of southern Idaho started. Which means that while it may not be an official state holiday here, fireworks are on sale basically all month to accommodate both July holidays.
