Is there like an Ides of September? The 15th seems to be a portentous day for a lot of people around me.
1. The friends I tutored in Spanish way back when in Germany are moving to Paraguay today. (Man--gives me hives just thinking about that move. At least their children are older. Still.)
2. Our local school board has a millage election for a new high school today. Totally on board with the need for a new school, but I am just not seeing that they're going to raise $110 MILLION in Arkansas during the worst recession since the Depression. Nope. Not seeing it. (We had a new HS in Michigan the year we were there, too--it cost only $40 million, and people thought that was outrageous.)
3. Another friend has a court case.
4. DH is going back to the dentist because his fillings of a week ago are hurting so much that he's waking up in agony every time the advil wears off. I don't think that's supposed to happen--especially since his teeth didn't even hurt before he had the fillings. I really hope they can solve the problem.
5. The job list for this year's hiring season comes out this week as well (the season runs all year--it's hiring for next school year). After last year's event of advertising and then freezing nearly all positions, we're expecting the list to come with a magnifying glass.
I think I might be starting to get a grip on these last two chapters of the revision. When I yanked stuff from later in the book and moved it up, it really messed up the tensions for the following scenes. Of course I knew this. But knowing how to fix it is another matter. Then maybe I will finally have the overall structure/order of the story down, and can go back and refine a couple of plot lines/character arcs that need it. Feeling very unsure of myself and unable to tell if what I am doing is helping or not. I hate that feeling. But I'm hoping that I can get these last few chapters organized and that things at least feel better. Since I went to three different stores yesterday (two of them Walmart--doncha love when kids suddenly need photo developing for a school project--tomorrow?), I'm hoping I'll be allowed to stay home today and just work on this.
If you are having an Ides of September day--good luck!
