Happy Labor Day
Sep. 7th, 2009 10:14 pmWe were a bit lame and didn't make plans to go anywhere for the holiday, but it turned out to be a good thing because half the family came down with a heavy cold and were kind of miserable. Plus PMB is getting eye teeth and is unhappy about that. So we just grilled in the back yard and then made smores, and that was nice.
Earlier, though, I got DH to pull out his climbing gear and let me put it all on and hook carabiners and ropes all over the closet so I could feel out a scene I'm revising. I have to say, I married the right guy. Not only does he support my imaginary friends; he plays along with them. At least this time we didn't have the neighbors looking on and wondering what we were doing (a la the football-soccer-volleyball event several months ago).
The revision is going--I don't know if it's going well or not. I've got to smooth over what I've done so far, and I know what I need to put in this prologue (I am generally not a fan of prologues, and it disturbs me to put one in, but I think I might have to). But now I've come to chapter 15 (of 20--ish) and now that I've chopped things out of the end and moved things up, I'm left with a handful of scraps whose meanings have now changed. AAAAAA! I keep hoping that this will have magically changed by the time I get to it again, but nope, the mess is all still there. Hopefully this week I'll figure it out. Usually when I have unpleasant things I have to take care of instead, my natural tendency towards avoidance kicks in and comes up with lots of creative ideas. And since this week I have to go to the dentist and get a crown, I'm sure I will have plenty of chances for imagination. (Last night, for example, I dreamed I showed up at the dentist for the crown, only surprise! I was getting brain surgery, instead. Fun, huh?)
I hope everyone had a fun day. PMB took a nap from 7-8 pm today, so now I've got to convince him that it really is nighttime...
