That was kinda fun. I just amputated 5000 words. I combined two chapters and cut out some scenes I really liked but maybe weren't necessary. I skipped ahead of where I am in the chronology to do it, so I'll have to make sure everything is still flowing once I get there--but I don't think it will be too hard to get it into line. At the moment the chapter I'm officially on needs a new setting (a la  Catherine Hartwicke from my last post); I might have to research 19th century horse races before I can do it. Which means waiting for a day when I'm more awake. I'm alternately sleepy, feeling physically really uncomfortable, entertaining children whose plans for today have mostly been thwarted and who want me to fix it, and trying to find a place to live next month, and it isn't going very well.

What I really need to do is take a long, uncomfortable walk and try to get things moving in the baby department. Ugh. I've also got to pack a few things for myself and a couple kids. The preschool group in kindergarten is doing their annual slumber party this weekend, and in a couple weeks, my second son will be going on his week-long class trip. DD insists she needs a panda outfit, or at least a mask, because her group is pandas (the theme is animals). Um. It's not Halloween or Carnival, so I don't know where we would find something like that, anyway.

At least I made some revision progress.

The Charleston horseracing season, it appears, was in February, not June.

Rats.

Now I need another kind of event antebellum planters would go to.
