Friday random
Jun. 27th, 2008 01:06 pmIt's 70F with a breeze, and can I say how nice that feels?
Spain beat Russia 3-0 last night, so it looks like we're up against Spain in the finals. Since it looked like most of the game went by 0-0, I didn't watch but the last few minutes, so I don't know how Spain plays.
My husband heard last night that the woman who was nursery teacher at church for most of our kids died yesterday. That is sad (although I'm sure she feels much better now--she was 75? and hadn't been doing well for some months). She was the kind of person who is pretty strict, and at first I thought my kids would be afraid of her, but instead they LOVED her. (In fact, some of their first sentences in German were, "Schwester B. liebt mich.") So we will miss her!
Our cell phone (that we've had for all of one week) has died. You plug it in until it says it's charged, and once you unplug it, it won't go on. DH is taking it back today. Hopefully they can easily replace the battery instead of issuing a whole new phone. I need that phone to work!! I suppose I know what to do in the case of an emergency home birth, but I'd much rather keep my knowledge theoretical...
We finally made it to the pool yesterday. It was only about 75 degrees, but the water was kind of warm. I got arm floaties for the littlest, and she was ecstatic. She could actually walk around in the water, which thrilled her to no end. She even tried doing the back float, putting her head back and her feet up, with no fear. I was impressed. The other kids have had a much harder time doing that. Of course, they don't have floaties. Also, when in Europe, you just have to realize that human bodies are just...things. There were some seriously big kids stripping at the pool side to get their suits on (there are plenty of changing stalls, BTW). There was even a woman older than me (40s-50s) quietly pulling on her suit under her clothes--right at the poolside! Nobody had any problems with this. Yeah, anyway. Most of these people are pretty wrinkly and sun-stretched, so the raw flesh is a turnoff rather than anything else. Still, it's not what you'd see at a US pool, that's for sure.
Okay, I think that's random enough. I need to go back and work on my revision before everyone tells me how bored they are, and before all the friends come over.
