1. If you are planning to do a bilingual teleconference, make sure your provider provides a clear connection. Scrunchy crackliness is not conducive to communication.

2. I think I have a mouth allergy to apples and hazelnuts. No, it's not the deathly nut allergy. It's related to birch tree pollen (of which there's a lot in central Europe) and is also related to stone fruits, although I am okay on those. But when I eat raw hazelnuts and some varieties of apples my mouth gets all itchy. I like hazelnuts, so this is not good. (Cooking these things destroys the offending enzyme/protein, so hazelnuts in chocolate or hazelnuts toasted are fine, thank goodness.) Still, it's annoying.

3. Remember my rant about taking the kids to the eye doctor, and the technicians pooh-poohing my son's specially-made bifocals? Well, they gave him a prescription that's a lot lighter (his bifocals were +8 on the regular part and +10 on the bifocal part, and the new ones are not bifocals and are only +6). His new ones finally came in. The optiker was nice enough to adjust his old ones that had gotten off-kilter. I think she broke them, though. The screw or screw base is now stripped and won't hold in the lens. And HE CAN'T SEE OUT OF THE NEW ONES. He can't read at all with them (and for those of you who know my son, not reading is like cutting off his arms and legs), he can't see to do his knitting homework, and all we need now is for him to start crossing again and for these new glasses to mess up his vision. And of course, it's a holiday here until Tuesday (Good Friday plus Easter Monday). I am foreseeing a VERY tearful weekend. And I'm really irritated at this eye doctor and his (or his technicians') sniffy ideas about American eye practices.
