Do you ever have moments where you just feel positive about something, even if you don't have any substantial reason to do so? Feeling good about the writing at the moment. I realize my best hopes might not like it and then I'll have to start all over again, but um, I really hope they do! Or at least if they don't, that I can find someone that cool who does. And while I haven't had so much time to do heavy-duty writing on the WIP since my breakthrough on a plot line, things are coming together in my head. It was my turn to do my monthly submission to my on-line chapters crit group this week, and of course that was the day I felt WRETCHED, and I knew I had to still revise what I had before hitting send. And it was painful, but I like what came out of it. Isn't it strange how you can feel really, really NOT feel like writing, but if you do, the Muse can still show up?

Also happy today because my youngest sister-in-law came yesterday and will be here until shortly after Christmas. She's the one unmarried sibling left, which means she is the sainted aunt to all the nieces and nephews. (When they all get together it becomes somewhat hairy, though, since all of them think they personally own her.)  The kids all want to stay up late and play with her, so getting them in bed on school nights might prove interesting, but so far so good. Plus, it's always fun to have people visit us because it's fun to show them Germany.

And, my husband is now up to his fourth interview. One in Los Angeles (that one's done), another phone interview tomorrow for a place in west Texas (good school, completely bleak landscape--but not L.A.!), and two for the MLA conference the last week of December (both NC schools--ahh, beautiful green, and not too far from Charleston). I hope hope hope we get a good job in a place we all feel at home in, that's safe and has good schools and where we can afford to live without a huge commute.

Back to Germany--I like where we live, but I admit I'm counting down the days until I can use a normal-sized washer and a dryer of any kind again. I think I have only something like 480 more washloads to go in this country!!

And lastly--sis-in-law also brought my new laptop with her. My old one (pre-owned at least twice) has a non-functioning screen, a battery that falls off, various bits peeling off the sides, and a keyboard that was also falling off, so that sometimes the keys wouldn't really work. At the moment all I have set up here is Firefox, so I can't actually do much writing yet, but woohoo! The thing works!!
