(no subject)
Jun. 10th, 2007 04:21 pmOkay, I'm entertained. Back in early December I sent out a wave of queries. A few of them garnered no response at all, and eventually I dropped them into the "no thanks" file. But lo and behold, I just got a partial request for one of them! I've got a couple fulls out right now, and I'm deep into an entirely different book, but hey, why not?
Aside from that, it's being a fairly relaxing weekend. My sister had a baby (yay!) and we're happily at home until later in the week, when we'll be going to Berlin again. The academic organization sponsoring us is having a conference for all and sundry. We (and our kids) have been invited to meet the president. Okay, so the German president doesn't do very much--that's the chancellor's job--but still. I hope the president is ready for this. I hope our fellow passengers on the train are, too.
I've also finished Angie Sage's Flyte (in German; my son and I were reading it together) and Physik (in English). They are still pretty omnicient, but I think the POV has become a little more focused since the first book, which is a good thing. After reading the dragon as Feuerspei for the past several hundred pages, it was hard to think of him as Spit Fyre, though. Plus, the German version doesn't have all those Byzarre Spellinges and Capitalizations. (Well, all nouns are capitalized in German, but nothing sticks out as Verye Strange.) I liked the name Snorri. A good resuscitation from the sagas.
School starts back up tomorrow. I sense a lot of foot-dragging in my future.
