The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak
Nov. 20th, 2006 02:03 pmI finished this a few minutes ago in my toddler's dark bedroom, where she was supposed to be taking a nap. I tried to keep the sniffles quiet.
The toddler climbed into my lap and tried to work out the connection between the domino-decorated book and mama's wet cheeks. Since she couldn't, she snuggled deeper and fingered the pages. She had the two things she values most: her mama, and a book.
I don't really know what I could say to review this book, except that when Markus Zusak said that all his books had a little piece of him, but The Book Thief contained ALL the pieces of him, he meant it.
It's not light reading. It might not even be a YA. But it was good.
