I mentioned awhile ago that I'd run into some old neighbors from student days in the grocery store, and how it wasn't the first time that I'd met up with them like that. Now I just had an even more bizarre coincidence. Thirteen years ago I lived in Chile. I had a great friend there who I lost touch with over the years. I got an e-mail from her today. Her sister just "happened" to run across my e-mail address and put us in contact. My friend now lives in...Germany!

I mean, what are the chances of me from the US meeting a friend from Chile in Germany? Now I'm TOTALLY convinced that there is no such thing as good-bye, at least not in my life, anyway. (And now all those nightmares that I get, the ones about people talking to me in both German and Spanish and who knows what else, and wanting me to respond like an intelligent person instead of a mud-brained hen, are also coming true...)

More on writing...er, sometime. My laptop cable broke, and while I did manage to back things up onto another computer, that computer is running linux (in German, so together that's TWO foreign languages). It's probably good for me to take a break, though, and focus on some reading. Yesterday I finished Im Bann des Schattenpferdes (or something like that), a MG about an archaeologist family who goes to live in a castle ruin in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (a state in northern Germany, up close to Poland). The book involves a ghost horse, dreams that are a little too realistic, and a crusade of the Germans against the pagan Slavs in 1147. Very interesting history. I mean, how often do you find a MG in America on pagan Slavs? Being half Slav myself (and never having grown out of the horse phase), AND being a fan of castle ruins, I thought the book was pretty cool.

All right. Time to look at the other books waiting for me.
