cars and characters
Sep. 25th, 2006 08:52 amIn Germany, even the dump trucks are Mercedes. Here's what was parked out front of the kindergarten this morning: http://www.mku.co.yu/upload/images/projekti/Ljubovijaposle04_2.jpg
And this weekend, we went for a walk and while going through a narrow passage where some nicer houses are, encountered Alice Cullen's car parked in front of one of the houses. It's always a bit freaky to encounter real-life evidence of literary characters. I used to catch myself all the time in Charleston because I instinctively wanted to wave at the rickshaw drivers. I had to keep reminding myself that Simon was only a character in my mind, not a real person.
I'm sure it would be all the worse were I to go to England. I'd look for colleges that weren't there (Gaudy Night), as well as train platforms (Harry Potter), estates (Austen, Nesbit), etc.
Is it possible to have just a little too much imagination?
