five more random, sleepless things
1. A book I ordered through the bookstore is in. Yay!
2. I won an ARC from the Harper Collins book review site. And it was one I really, really wanted. And it came today. Yay!
3. I have officially overdosed on Czech genealogy. Er...yay?
4. I haven't slept in um...many nights. Mostly my fault (see #3). But last night we had this huge storm system come through (not again!--no, no ice; this was
lillpluta 's storm over in Oklahoma). First I had to make sure we weren't going to have a tornado (we didn't--but as we saw in the ice storm, public warning systems in this town are basically nonexistent). Then when I finally decided to just collapse in bed anyhow, three of my kids woke up with the thunder (admittedly, some of it was rocking the house to the point that my California husband started to have earthquake twitches). I think everyone was up until at least midnight. So--not yay.
5. Now it's nine pm, the boys are recently back from scouts and are singing loudly in post-shower exuberance (no, bathing does not calm my kids, and never has). And goblins have abducted Little Sweetie! The new, four-year-old NO started almost to the day of her birthday. Her current NO is no-I-won't-go-to-bed-because-I'm-not-tired. Well, I am!! I'm trapped in my room with the light off in hopes that she will climb into her own bed in the dark. So far it isn't working. I can hear her playing with toys in her room. Sigh.
Please, someone reassure me--I really will be allowed to sleep again someday, right?

Get yourselves a weather radio. They aren't that pricey. Our tornado sirens cannot be easily heard in the house .. especially if kids are making noise and the t.v. is on. They are so faint inside the house, that it sounds almost like the computer kicking on .. in fact the computer has scared the bejeezus out of me a few times .. because it sounds exactly like a muffled tornado siren. Our closest siren is about a mile down the road. Here they are mounted on top big poles right along with the telephone wires.
Weather radios are obnoxious but you can set them to go off only when there are warnings for certain areas
. They are great to have especially if you con't want to upset the kids by having the hyperactive weather casters on the t.v.
