Welcome, Mr. President!

There have been a lot of times in the past few years when I've been embarrassed by the actions of my country. I've watched from within and without, and there are times when I haven't felt very patriotic. But today, I am proud to be an American. I am hopeful for the future! And I am wordless at the opportunity to witness such a dramatic turning point in history. God bless America and every government official and private citizen who builds for peace, prosperity, and justice.

That is exactly how I feel!

I'm running into people who are not excited that Obama has been elected and therefore are rather unexcited about the inauguration and festivities. Perhaps they see it as a Big Ol' Party for Those Who Won. But to me it goes beyond a simple party for the winners. The fact is, those people who didn't vote for him? They didn't vote for him because they disagreed with his politics, NOT, for the most part, because of his skin color. And THAT is a great reason to celebrate! Watching footage of MLK at the Mall this weekend, and then seeing things come full circle today, was really amazing.

Wow. I haven't run into anyone yet who wasn't excited. Maybe my in-laws or my parents, but I haven't heard anyone saying anything.

I agree that this is bigger than who won and who lost. It's a new start in our history and an ending to past wrongs. I definately think it is reason to celebrate!

It's partly on line and partly people who didn't even remember what day it was until I mentioned something. They are smart people, so I think they must just see this day as meaning something other than I'm seeing it.

I think at the end of the day, Obama is either going to collapse from exhaustion, or be up all night, thinking, What on earth have I gotten myself into? Definitely a lot of excitement, despite those who aren't so interested!

Your second paragraph made me giggle because I kept worrying about the Obamas yesterday that they would collapse from exhaustion. Tyler kept saying, "it's like the rodeo, Sarah, those cowboys want to be on those bulls. It's what they've trained for and they love it. They aren't in in peril. The Obamas are extraverts and they probably love this stuff and get energy from it."

That's probably true, but 10 inaugural balls! I'm thinking, I'd have to rest all the next day after just one ball--I assume.

I agree with you completely. Today I would be proud to go anywhere in the world and say, "I am an American."

Yes!
