Happy 2009!

We drove out to spend New Year's Day with my parents (which actually meant spending five hours in the car total to get there and back, plus Small Child throwing up--mostly our kids don't get carsick, but last time she threw up on the way after chugging um, way too much Halloween candy, and this time she was heavily congested with the kind of cold where too much coughing can do that, too. Hopefully she'll be okay next time, but I think today she just got one curve too many. If you've ever driven in the Ozarks, you know what I mean.) I'm glad to live close enough to be able to do that, although it's still a distance. DH updated my parents' computer (although something weird happened with the sound--we have a project for next time we go), and my dad took the kids for a walk in "Grandpa's Woods," which used to be bitty cedar trees we'd cut down for Christmas trees in the house, but which are way huge now.

I've been trying to think of goals for 2009, and I don't know that I have any new ones. Um...get back in shape after having a kid. Finish the current book. Figure out plot/structure/active characters and whatever else it is that I'm just not getting. Teach my kids one level more of self-sufficiency. Keep the German.

Then again, every time I make plans, a whole set of unexpected circumstances come up. So maybe I should just resolve to do my best with whatever happens.

No kidding. Life just springs these huge surprises on a person, doesn't it. Good luck on reaching your goals.

I know...maybe I should be taking up martial arts and ax-waving and Finnish instead of what I'm doing (in case we move to Finland and decide to raise funds by competing for Finland in the Eurovision contest...)

Yep, that last one is almost always my goal :) Hope your little one feels better soon!
