still hot

Okay, people, it's 32C, which is 90 F. It's six pm. This is GERMANY. There is no AC. If you're pregnant, it's like it's 110. So much for all my great intentions to get stuff done today. It is very hard to revise the delicate interworkings of uncertain teen love triangles when you feel like passing out.

I did clear out a bunch of stuff from a closet. It involved dealing with all the stuff that was in there for mending, which meant that my daughter whose heel hurts too much to walk on remembered I'd promised to teach her to sew a doll out of an old sock. So, two hours later, my closet is just as full, only now slightly rearranged, and I just noticed I never hemmed the other leg I trimmed today of the pants I'm wearing. But we did finish the doll together:

Oh, isn't she precious! :) Glad to see you got the important stuff out of the way first, and now you can go do the other cleaning stuff--or just go make a sister for Sockalina :)

Luckily, Big Sister has promised to make a stuffed animal for Little Sister. They read a book in kindergarten called Das Kleine Ich Bin Ich (The Little I-Am-Me) about an unidentifiable animal who finally decides he doesn't care if he's the only one out there like him, he exists, and that's enough. So they read this and then all the kids sewed their own. Little Sister wants one, and hey, if she can get her big sister to sew it, great!

How cute.
I'd send you our cool weather if I could.

The "visit" went well. We got photos. She is very personable and an excellent speaker.

Good luck on sorting through stuff. I have more to sort, and don't have that long until packers arrive.

We have to pack our suitcases this weekend. We pack our suitcases--all we are taking with us for two reasons: one, make sure everything we want to take fits and two, so the packers don't pack what we NEED. Um, yes, there is a story here.

Good luck. That would be a problem with packers, I assume.

Glad the visit went well!

Cute doll--that's really creative and fun. Hmmm.... from personal experience, no AC is not fun. No AC hasn't been much of a big deal so far for us this summer--it's only gotten truly hot for a day or two. *sending more dealing with heat luck your way...*

[identity profile] olmue.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks--although it can get hot there, too. But the dryness helps. I remember one summer I'd go running every day and come home to find out the high had been 107, only I hadn't noticed.

We do have very thick concrete walls, which help hold the cool air a lot better than matchstick American walls. Still. It's hot!

That's hot! Sorry you're melting :(

cute doll ;)

Good thing nobody minds the multicolored hair, huh? :)

Cute doll. And you have my sympathies on the heat.

[identity profile] olmue.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks on both counts! It looks like we're having a small thunderstorm out there, so things *might* cool down. I hope!

[identity profile] fandoria.livejournal.com 2008-05-30 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
We're supposed to have a thunderstorm this evening too. It's getting all overcast and super humid now.

Very cute!

Here's hoping it's not a humid 90 degrees...

[identity profile] olmue.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
It was a little drier than it has been earlier in the week--still, I'm glad to see the temps for today are supposed to be around 20C--much better!!

[identity profile] edawn.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
That's why I think you are so cool. You are totally suffering, and you still take the time to make a doll with your daughter.

[identity profile] olmue.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
Well, we had to do something. The ONLY other activity she could really do was watch TV, and there are only so many hours per day you can let your kids do that.

[identity profile] olmue.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
(cough) And don't ask how many hours that is.

[identity profile] edawn.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
See, I would have flopped myself down on the couch and let princess bring me popsicles and cold drinks while I grumbled under my breath about living in a place that doesn't have air conditioning.
