I just love the chance for everyone to stay home, get enough sleep, and stock up on stories over the break! We were going to go skating yesterday (only one of us knows how, but this seems the place to learn), but it was 42 degrees, and everything was too slushy. Today it's plunging from yesterday's temperature straight down to -30, with a blizzard on the side, so...we are still inside, reading books and watching movies.

Actually, I went to the theater two times in two days, which is twice as often as I usually go. I saw the Hobbit with my husband and older boys, and then went back to take my younger kids to see Frozen. It was very fun, and I think I could get used to doing that sort of thing every day. :) (Well, if I had a gift card to do that every day, I mean...) The one thing that always bothers me about movies is that despite MANY scriptwriting books out there on the subject, movies always seem to have problems keeping a single through-line of the plot. (Probably because far too many people have executive powers over changing the plot.) And these were no exception, although there were things I really liked in them, too. There were some things that worked really well, though, and I'm trying to puzzle through why--because when you're a writer, you really can't just watch something and walk away. You've got to take it to bits and see what you can learn from it.
