So, this weekend was my husband's family reunion, which consisted of his own nuclear family on one level, and the Greater Green Ecosystem (ie descendants of his grandparents, who had 11 children). It was in one of the more beautiful places on the planet, up in the Tetons. We live close enough to drive every day, so we did not stay up there overnight, but it looked like fun (and also very tiring as far as kids getting to sleep).

Up in Teton Canyon, where my FIL lived as a little boy. My husband fell into this creek when he was 8, and was lucky to get out without incident.

Some kind of plentiful wildflower this time of year (the purple) and also Wyoming paintbrushes against aspens, and a thistle. Its flowers are downy soft, in contrast to its nasty spines:

South Fork of Teton Canyon. Some day I am going to hike Devil's Staircase! Or at least reach the base of it. With so many kids excitedly going off in all directions, we didn't even get as far as we did with my 89YO dad last month. But it was still pretty.

We rode horses, and some relatives went canoeing, but we are not particularly water people, and would have had a lot of kids to watch on the water, so we didn't. Also, they got rained on. We had several huge family dinners (150 people???) and met a lot of people who amazingly look very similar. Our kids played with their cousins and had a great time making foil dinners, playing in the creek, squirting each other with squirt guns, petting the nearby mules, etc. We also went out to my husband's other grandfather's house, the one who died last December. So fascinating--we saw in the pump room the basic wall, and inside the cheery red boards is an actual log cabin.

I think this was the most aesthetic barn I've ever seen.

Also while there, all the kids got to pick out something to remember their great grandpa by. When we were leaving, I was surprised to see a certificate from the Institute of Children's Literature framed on the wall! It made me smile, and connect with him, because he was a writer, too.
