There's this mom at swim lessons who has always looked vaguely familiar, like one of my college roommates who I only shared an apartment with for a semester. I noticed her last year but we haven't ever been close enough to strike up a conversation (plus, I thought it might seem weird if a total stranger just walked up and asked where she was living 20 years ago). She has a daughter who is my younger daughter's stunt double--their faces are different, but their body shape and their size and their hair (long, straight braids) are so similar that I've often confused her daughter for mine while scanning the pool. This year, her older daughter is in the same class with my older daughter, so I've heard happy comments about her, too. Well. Today the kids begged my visiting parents to come watch them at swimming lessons. So we went, and there was this other mom. And next to her was HER mom.

Who is my aunt.

So uh, I guess there's a really good reason our daughters look so much alike. In my defense, I haven't seen this cousin since she was nine. Still. What are the odds? If my parents and her mom hadn't been there today (her mom lives about an hour from here), we never would have known.
