Of books

My TBR pile is getting thin and so is my hold list at the library, so I've been rereading lately. I picked up Madeleine L'Engle's THE YOUNG UNICORNS today. I haven't read it in decades, and had only vague memories of the plot. I much prefer the Murry family stories, but I do remember liking this one. And some things have stayed with me ever since--I do actually take my shoes off when hearing organ music, so I can feel it through the floorboards (the little brother lies down, but adults can't do that in concerts...). I think that one doesn't upgrade quite as well as the ones with magic, though--A WRINKLE IN TIME has this timeless quality to it, but this one feels like it takes place in the 1960s. Plus, if you're coming in there having not read the other books (or not in a long time), there are a LOT of people to keep track of. And there are also a lot of people running around saying, I have a secret! And I'm not going to tell you, even if it would make everything a lot easier! Which I found kind of frustrating. But I still *liked* it. Just not love.

Then there was the book fair tonight. My 11YO and I went, but were disappointed that we didn't find anything. The books that looked interesting were ones we'd already read, and the other ones just weren't doing it for us. So er...we went to the bookstore instead. And came out with some regular-priced ones. The Crowfield Curse, a paperback copy of Entwined (that I have already gushed about here), and The False Prince, which I've heard great things about and wanted to read. I really need something satisfying to settle into to make the break between what I've been revising, and a new WIP. I find that reading, tanking up on books where you read the story at normal speed instead of the frame-by-frame speed of writing, is really important between projects.

What are you reading these days? Andy that you'd especially recommend?
