So, is it just me, or did LJ do away with that handy bar where you can make cuts or link to other LJ users? All I have is the HTML screen. Annoying.
It's spring. It's either in the 40s-50 with sun that feels way warmer than that, or in the 50s with gloomy rain and wind that feels way colder. Spring used to mean the dread of tornado weather, and was never my favorite season, but after winter in Idaho, it's shooting up in status. In Idaho, spring is the itch on your foot you can’t quite scratch. A longing for something you can’t live without, except you can’t quite name it. It’s the wobble on a first-time bike, and sidewalk chalk in shorts, even as the snow is still melting in the grass.
It also means daylight savings time, which we are all struggling to adopt here. There was no school yesterday, which helped, but today we are all dragging. I did manage to write 1700 words today (and maybe counting), despite not feeling like I was making much progress. Maybe I am? I have three WIPs in various stages. This one is at about 19,000 words, which is funny, because I'm totally making it up as I go along. A while back, I outlined a different book. I'm not an outliner but it was sort of fun, and I feel like I have a real book in miniature. Unfortunately, outlines tend to kill the book for me, so I've had to put it away for a bit to regain the love. I think I'm getting close to being able to work on it again, though. And then there's the ooh, shiny! project whose characters moved in, fully formed, into my brain. I have a great setup but need to do some plot work on that one. So basically, after quite a fallow period following my last book, I'm suddenly overrun with characters who want me to tell their story. It's fun and a bit overwhelming.
Right now, though, my kids have come home and I need to encourage the completion of several math assignments. And keep my 3YO from puncturing the bag of blood he brought home from health class. Red corn syrup, marshmallows, rice, etc.--the parts of blood. Cool, as long as it doesn't get poured anywhere.
