The book I'm working on right now is writing itself in a strange way, really different from any other book. I guess that's how books are--you think you've figured out how to write one, and then the next one is totally different. My last book just came out all at once. I took a month's pause to revise a different ms, and I swear, after 30 days, I could feel Cole's foot tapping in my head, saying, "All right, I gave you a month--now it's back to ME."
This is not that book.
Slow, slow, slow. Figuring out characters and situations to exploit their feeeeeelings in the most effective way. Detailed notes on scenes and chapters. It's...strange. But I figure that if I'm trying to fix whatever it is that my writing seems to lack, I've got to try a different way of writing, right? I've got to find a way to shake loose whatever it is inside that needs to come out. I'm really hoping that once I have all of this figured out, the writing of the actual words will go very quickly. Um, I hope. I hear of people who write a book in a month and that's normal (not talking about the crazy randomness of Nano)--but I think that they must have done a LOT of this other stuff beforehand, otherwise how could they know their characters enough to write about them?
