There is nothing like a 3YO who never naps getting three naps in one day. Yikes. He's NEVER going to shut down. I was glad for it during the funeral today (the grandfather-in-law who was 95), but man, we are sure paying for it now.

Nice things about today: seeing lots of family we hadn't seen in a long time. Okay, so PMB was utterly distraught throughout the entire funeral because he really wanted to be sitting with cousin V, who is one year older than him and who he LOVES, even though she's a girl. (Or maybe that's why? He plays mainly with his sisters, after all.) But she was four rows ahead of us. Afterwards, at the huge family dinner, all the kids got to sit at the same table, and spend a lot of time running around once they were done. It was also nice that so many people came to pay their respects. They said that people waited for 45 minutes in line last night at the viewing! When you're a personable sort of guy in a small town and you've lived there your whole life, you impact a lot of people. (Then there was PMB and his cousin, who were quite fascinated with the whole idea of the viewing, and kept going back for second and third looks.) My husband did the grave dedication, which was nice, and while of course it's a sad occasion when someone dies, this was the right kind of funeral, where the person has had a good life and left no regrets and people are just enjoying the opportunity to celebrate the person's life. We also appreciated his church congregation for contributing to the very nice family dinner. The family did the meat (supposedly ham, but there was a second kind that one woman said was elk--hey, this is Idaho!) and the church brought the side dishes. As we're nearly always on the giving end, it was interesting and different to be on the receiving end. We kept looked at each other furtively and wondering if we should be helping wash dishes and put chairs away afterwards.

Then we came home and did birthday cake, as we had four extra people to help us eat it. Remember when we moved back from Germany and lost a whole box of our favorite books in the mail? There was one really nice one of the area we lived in in Germany that we simply could not track down to replace. Well, somehow, with the help of several friends in Germany, DH tracked it down, and then they saved it until one of the friends made a business trip to the US. Very cool! And my kids found me a Harry Potter trivia game, which I'm planning to play with them once I can rub two brain cells together--I've read those books aloud too many times not to smoke them at it. :)

The one thing we haven't quite taken care of is Christmas letters, but hey, we still have five days...right?
