Here's what I don't understand in this place: Halloween. I'm not a fan of trunk or treats, unless the kids are VERY small, or you live in a place that is fairly dangerous and you don't really want to knock on someone's door and have them pull a gun on you. (This happened in the US a couple years ago, I remember.) But--I don't live in one of those places. I live in a very small neighborhood where we know nearly everyone, and everything is within close walking distance. However. There is a trunk or treat at the church around the corner, and so people feel that if they do that, they're done with Halloween. Which sort of negates the whole trick or treat thing in a PERFECT Halloween neighborhood. On the other hand, there are people who are non-trunk or treaters, so you can still go, but it's hit and miss. We opted to try the trunk or treat this year but got the times mixed up (and really, my girls just got home from an after school thing and we couldn't have gone earlier if we'd wanted to). So we missed it. But a number of kids went out trick or treating--before 6 pm, when it's still light--so I sent my kids, too. I've seen kids out there, but nobody's come to our door yet. Hopefully it's not a too-terrible experience.
Argh. This is what happens when you move often. You are always a bit out of synch with "what we do EVERY year"--except you don't instinctively know those things.
Ah, well. It's just candy, right?
ETA: Okay, it seems to have started for real. Good. Especially since we had a lot of candy and needed to get rid of it!
