Neodymium

Don't you love it when you have a number of elements you want in a story and then you do some research and find that yes, indeed, a bunch of obscure details really do come through for you in just the way you need them to? The fact that there are neodymium deposits in SE Idaho makes me rather pleased. (Neodymium is necessary to make supermagnets, but China controls 97% of the world's production.)
