Feb. 23rd, 2011 06:18 pm1. How do 2YOs survive??? I can sleep through noise; I can't sleep when my toddler is walking on my bed in the dark at 2 am. I was awake so much last night thanks to a wakeful PMB that I was seriously considering lying down in the canned vegetable aisle and taking a nap at the grocery story today. I didn't. But I could have!
2. Thank goodness for big sisters. PMB has strenuously resisted any form of potty training as presented by his parents. (He even packed up the toilet seat and stool DH got out for him and shoved it all under the sink the other day.) However, when his sisters present the idea, suddenly it's FABULOUS. And it's working!
3. School fundraiser at McDonald's tonight. When I told the 10YO we were going, he thought I'd lost my mind. Yeah, well, once a year we can go to McDonald's, I guess.
4. Books!!! I'm reading Jenny Moss's TAKING OFF right now and loving it. I love fantasy and action and save the world stories as much as anyone--but I have been wanting some variety, something where the world to be saved is the MC's own. Also looking forward to the new Stravaganza book (Mary Hoffman) and also the sequel to Incarceron. But right now, I'm really enjoying Jenny's book.
5. Our family has been asked to sing on Sunday in church. Um... If you are in town, you might plan to not come. We appreciate music very much, but we are not exactly any of our neighbors with perfect pitch. Ah, well. The good thing is, they may never ask us to do this again, right? :)
6. Nevertheless, I actually don't mind being so-so at many things. There are some creative endeavors that I am very much focused on getting exactly right, ie writing. And while I don't feel the need to be professionally competitive, I know what a good job is for me in art, and do feel I need to keep a high standard there. But other things--music, knitting, whatever--I do them because I enjoy them, mistakes and all. I feel a little sorry for inflicting my amateurness on others who take these things as seriously as I take my writing--but for my own self, I just intend to enjoy it.
