Power outage
Jan. 26th, 2011 09:28 pmThere's nothing like a power outage to bring out your inner End of the World fears. Although I have to say, we handled it much better than when we were at my in-laws' last summer and the power went out. Then, it was summer, warm, and really, the only thing was that we had no lights. Even if it were winter, how cold does it get in S. California, anyhow? But we all remembered the Great Ice Storm of 2007 (when, at 15 degrees, we had no power for five days).
Today, everyone just played cards and wandered around with emergency flashlights. Which was pretty good, I thought, considering it's IDAHO in the WINTER. (And we have no secondary heat source, so I'm really glad we didn't end up out of power for more than an hour.) It's only in the 20s and we are starting to amass serious winter sleeping bags and clothing, so I was feeling slightly prepared. Besides, if nothing else, we could always go outside and make a snow cave, right...?
