Ah...this is what Sunday evening is supposed to be like. Outrageously decadent brownies (based on the concept of prayer bars), homemade rolls, a game of Carcasonne, and much reading aloud. We did a chapter of Laura Ingalls Wilder's FARMER BOY (does it still get to -40 in the winter in upstate New York? I was born in NJ, and that just seems outrageously cold--like the Ice Age or something). We did a chapter of THE LIGHTNING THIEF. (Daughter 1 is now in the 3rd book, and I'm thrilled. Until now, she's loved listening to long books, but she's generally read itty bitty chapter books. Now we've finally found the book that turns on the light--yay!!). Then something like five chapters of ALCATRAZ VERSUS THE EVIL LIBRARIANS, by Brandon Sanderson. If you are looking for a great family read aloud that involves heroics, literature, magic, knights, glasses, crazy grandfathers, and general silliness, this is the one! Thank you, Mr. Sanderson--my kids will never want to go to bed now, because you just can't stop between chapters.
I hope you're all having a nice weekend out there!
