Eek! Snakes!

The other night we stopped at a traffic light and noticed a small group of teenagers walking down the road in the dark. One of them walked out into the opposite lane and picked something up. Something long, slithery, and moving! Eek! This is the middle of suburbia!

Then today, we took a short walk around a lake built right next to our neighborhood. We saw 3+ rabbits, 2 lizards, many ducks, some coots, and...yep. This guy (not my photo):



I don't think this is his normal habitat? (He's a Mohave shovel-nosed snake.) Maybe the chilly June and the overhot July is bringing them all out?
