Rain and 42 degrees. Funny that the day it was 72, we had snow on the ground, yet today you could see daffodils...
We went to the next town over to a local recreation center that looks like the city spent a lot of money on, except that it was funded by local individuals (the people who run JTL trucking). The thing about it is that everything there is either free or really, really cheap. Apparently the lady who donated the money is/was rather dedicated to making good things available to everyone, not just the entitled. Anyhow, they're doing spring break activities, so we did some crafts and had a fun day. The best craft was the birdhouse kits (provided by Home Depot?). One huge room, a zillion kids hammering and gluing...it was awesome. The craft we didn't get to do because it was the end of the day and we ran out of supplies was this wax hand cast.
Then I got three books in the mail that I've been really looking forward to. Also a chapter to crit for someone from a book that sounds quite promising. Yay! All I want to do is curl up in bed and read...but there's that real life thing that has to be taken care of... like the tent that the girls suddenly wanted set up so they could camp out in the living room--at 9:30 pm.
Movies--we don't see them often. But we checked out Where the Wild Things Are, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and New Moon. Wild Things is a film for adults, not kids. It's for people looking back on childhood and its Problems from an adult perspective. We gave up halfway through and put in Mr. Fox instead. That one was much better, and quite funny. It reminded me of that movie by the Wallace and Gromit people, about the chickens trying to escape being made into pie? Except of course, the chickens are on the other side of it this time. But a similar feel to it. And New Moon's strength was the werewolves and some humor sprinkled throughout. I have to say (please don't throw tomatoes!)--the casting of some of the Cullens doesn't do it for me. I don't care so much how well they match my mental image of the characters, but when they don't act like the characters, it's mentally jarring. From the film, I can't see why any girl would be attracted to Edward. I mean, the guy looks constipated all the time. The book Edward smiles and has a sense of humor. This one is just...grumpy all the time. Jacob, on the other hand, is exactly, TOTALLY my mental concept of this character. So while in the books, I'm pro-Edward, with the movies, I just want to shake the girl and tell her to GET A LIFE, SISTER!!! Stick with the guy who makes you smile!
Lights are low...nobody's asleep, but at least they have pajamas on and are lying down, except for PMB, of course. Maybe, if I'm really quiet, I can sneak back to the books and PMB won't notice and start beating me with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom again...
