Chilean earthquake
Feb. 27th, 2010 03:00 pmSome of you know that my username, Olmue, is a town in Chile where I lived for a summer as a missionary. (It's pronounced ohl-MWAY, in case you're wondering.) Having experienced my share of small (er, small meaning maybe a 6? but located in a relatively unpopulated area) earthquakes--and seen cracks and shacks resulting from other, MUCH greater earthquakes--and working with a fellow missionary who came from Valdivia, near the strongest recorded earthquake on earth--I'm a little worried about all the people down there.
OTOH, Chile isn't Haiti. As you can see just by watching the news. They do build for earthquakes. And the epicenter wasn't under the nation's capital, like in Haiti. But still. That quake was 500 times stronger than the one in Haiti. So I hope that the people I know are able to climb out and let people know they're okay.
I hope the Pacific Islanders are tsunami-safe, too.
