I spent the entire past week with Little Sweetie being sick, and after several feverish days, took her to the doctor, who basically patted me on the head and thought I was overreacting. (Um...my other kids are bringing home a new notification a week about more swine flu outbreaks in their schools, not to mention my husband's students who keep coming down with it. And when I look at my kid, and I look at the list of symptoms for which you should bring your kid to the doctor, they match.) Well, she's feeling a lot better now (still a cough and an unusual tendency to tantrum, which is not normal for her). But PMB has it now. Urgh. We've been up all night for two nights now. I sure hope I remember how to play that organ tonight. I did manage to fall asleep for about 20 minutes last night, and when I woke up, I seriously had no idea where I was--what house I was in, what state or country I was in... It took me a long time to remember that I was in Arkansas. I still couldn't remember what the street outside looked like, though. (We lived in another house in SC and the bedrooms between here and there are very, very similar, and my brain kept telling me I was there, instead.)

The Mom Cannot Get Sick. So I'm really hoping I manage to sleep tonight so I can stay healthy. And that PMB feels better soon, and that no one else gets it. And that some of the events that keep getting scheduled hold off, because I would seriously like to just all stay home and hang out with my family and see them for once. (I guess that is one benefit of being sick--you get to get out of events.)

Now I've got to force myself to do some cleaning (how does one manage to mop a floor and hold a sick child at the same time? Obviously I haven't figured it out yet--the floor is um, looking artistic these days...)

And I am so glad! First, DH was supposed to help someone move. PMB was up all night again, and didn't fully fall asleep until about 7:30. Which meant that DH and I, after a scant two hours' rest, woke up about the time DH was supposed to be helping this family move. Oops. When he got there, there were a ton of people helping, luckily.

Then there was the baby shower. A friend of mine became a grandma for the first time. It was an interesting shower in that people were coming from all different contacts and didn't know each other. Cute baby, nice mom, though.

Then I came home to get ready to go play organ for stake conference. I was a little worried I'd fall asleep on the drive, since it's the next town up the freeway, but luckily I made it okay. I went early to look at the registration, but uh, the organ was absolutely and completely different than the one I normally play. And the choir was wanting to practice. And the room was filling fast. Eek! I was able to find someone who usually plays that organ to show me a suggested registration, but I ended up boosting it a lot louder (like, adding the trumpets!) because the room was opened into the second overflow area, and when everyone started singing (including the choir that was right next to me), I couldn't hear the organ! Thus the trumpets, which helped. There was also this lovely, lovely musical number with voice, piano, and cello. The cello made me want to climb right inside it and wrap that sound around me. I think someday when my kids are big and in school, I would like to learn to play the cello.

It turned out all right, and I didn't fall asleep and am home now. But I sure hope everyone goes to sleep and stays asleep until morning!!

Good night!
