Poor Little Sweetie is sick. DH stayed home with her today, which meant he had to find someone to teach the class he was supposed to teach (and the logical person to fill in was also staying home with his sick kids while his wife ran the children's primary organization). It was that or find someone to fill in the piano/organ for me, which is somehow harder here. I also got to fill in on short notice for my oldest son's class because his teacher was home with sick kids. Have I mentioned that the flu is here? It is. I'm hoping Little Sweetie just has a bad cold. She's kinda miserable, but so far doesn't have any of the scary symptoms--just heavy congestion and fever. At least she's getting plenty of rest.
So, I can't write to music, but sometimes I can revise a bit. Sometimes all I can do is to listen to songs while I'm trying to get in character, so to speak. Here are a few songs/artists I've recently discovered that I like (they have little to do with anything I've been working on, but it's nice background music):
Vienna Teng--pianist/vocalist. Try Gravity or Lullaby for a Storm.
Jon Schmidt--okay, so I've know about him for a couple years. But I really like his latest, Love Story Meets Love Story (the one with Viva la Vida was better, but copyrights didn't work out). You can stream off his site here. Piano. His sheet music is fun to read--he has all kinds of energetic notes on it. I'd love to go to one of his concerts--you can tell he really loves what he does, and has tons of energy.
Yiruma--more piano, but quieter on the whole than Jon Schmidt. I found him while looking for stuff like Schmidt's. Apparently Twilight fans unofficially picked his River Flows in You as Bella's lullaby. Of course, it isn't in the movie--but I have to say that I like Yiruma's far, far better than the movie one.
Some of this I found on www.pandora.com, where you plug in a song you like, and it automatically searches for similar music.
