No school the next day, so there's plenty of time to read one more chapter. My 8-year-old who disliked being read to until he caught the Harry Potter bug is really getting into the read-alouds. The current offering would be Things Not Seen, by Andrew Clements. (Winner of the Siebert award, for those of you at ALA this week...) I've long thought it would be a fun read-aloud, and was waiting for the right moment. Apparently the right moment is now--I had a hard time taking the book back from my son and convincing him that we really had to put it up for the night (it's after 10 pm, after all, and we can't read half the book in one night). However, just because I have to be The Mom doesn't mean I don't completely sympathize!

(Shh!) One nice thing about being a grownup is that you really CAN stay up all night to finish a book if you want to. Of course, you pay for it, but sometimes it's worth it...
