summer medley
Jul. 6th, 2009 04:20 pmI feel a little...lost, now that my WIP is basically just a W. I've got a few more crits out there, and once they fly home, I'll go over the remaining changes (so far, despite the critters not even knowing each other in many cases, the comments have been remarkably similar). Then I'll be ready to send my little query into the world and see what happens. I do feel really good about this book. Okay, I always feel good about a finished book, knowing I've done the best I can, but I can't help believing I actually learned something while revising my other book, and that it shows in this one. I hope so, anyway!
I do have some ideas of what to write next (um, a LOT of ideas), but until the query goes out, my mind is still holding Anubis. But soon it will be time to make some new friends. That's always a funny time for me--is it for you? How do you handle that transition?
In real-world stuff, we burned the last of our ice storm wreckage last month and it left a large circle of ash in the back yard. DH poured some on the garden and we left for our trip. When we came back--wow!! (You have to understand that plants die when I merely look at them. Plus, gardening is NOT a relaxing escape for me because whenever we have a garden, we also have a baby. Try holding a squirming baby while weeding, and you will soon decide that anything, even Old Church Slavonic declensions, is easier than gardening.)
Anyway, the garden EXPLODED. I am putting ashes on EVERYTHING now. I love that we live in Arkansas, and can use the Osage Indian method of gardening--throw your seeds into the ground and come back three months later to see what grew. It has rained a lot and been hot, and now with the additional fertilizer... Nice. I was going to get some grass seed to cover the burned spot, but instead we picked up some more vegetables and dumped them in. I hope they grow! As I said, I don't like gardening, but when you are on a 9-month payscale, not a 12-month, you learn to do a lot of things you don't like if it means cheap food.
I think I can see how Perpetual Motion Boy is sustaining himself. He's taking a nap. The boy who never naps has collapsed. I'd better wake him up soon so we don't have a repeat of Middle of the Night Boy. He has now learned to climb onto my bed, which is bad, since nowhere is safe now.
Hm--or maybe I'LL take a nap, too...
