plot dreams, volume II
Mar. 17th, 2009 07:03 amA while back, I think it was
sarah_prineas who was asking whether people thought out their scenes in images or in words. I'm a pretty visual person when I'm thinking in art/illustrati This awareness to the structure of a novel is starting to feed into my dreams. Last night was another plot dream, with specifics on how the book was set up. I dreamed I walked into the book as a secondary character--but it was the second volume. Some unusual things were going on, and kept trying to get the main character to tell me what was up. "I haven't read the first book. I don't care about spoilers. Just tell me what happened." I do in real life start series with whichever book is available and then go back if necessary (yes, once I even read a series backwards), so I wasn't too disturbed with getting things out of order. Besides, if I was already in book 2, I was already living and breathing among the spoilers, so it didn't matter. Anyway, after getting my bearings of what was up, the MC finally did sit down and tell me her story. And it was really cool! I'm eager to finish the WIP I've got going right now, but there's a good chance this one might end up as my next WIP.
Of course, I sneaked out of bed and brought the laptop into the living room to both write this down and to address some issues from the chapter I'm working on in real time in the WIP, but regardless of the house being dark and me being quiet, everyone has heard me, and they're all up now. Drat. I hear of these writers who find time to write by getting up at five every morning, but it just doesn't work around here. It really doesn't matter how quiet I am or what time I sneak out of bed, someone always, always wakes up--and wakes the others up. If you ever read a book by me where the MC is under constant surveillance, trust me, I'm only "writing what I know."
And--completely unrelated, but happy St. Patrick's Day, to all those who love green.
